Preparing for Tests

Tips for Being Prepared for Tests

The big day finally arrives. Knowing the material you are to be tested on and studying diligently combine to help prepare anyone for this important day.

Studying Hard
It cannot be stressed enough, study right up until the day of your test.

Visualize a Great Score
Think about yourself at the end of the test, when all the hard work has paid off and you have a great score at the top of your test. Imagine what a perfect score would feel like, and keep that in mind as you continue preparing for the big day.

Maintain a Positive Attitude
Many people are not aware that a positive attitude is actually a key when preparing for any test in life. Remind yourself on a regular basis just how capable you are, and that you are able to get a great score on the upcoming test. In turn, your positive attitude becomes catchy, as others around you will begin thinking in more positive ways as well. Finally, when the negative tapes in your head begin, make sure you turn the volume to mute.

Methods to Control Stress
There are various proven methods to manage stress; yoga, prayer and other spiritual exercises are but a few ways. Whatever you have found to help you, be sure to be disciplined to practice what helps you, particularly as test day draws near. Be aware of becoming over-stimulated in the business of your day, and listen to what your body is saying. Perhaps close your eyes and become aware of your breathing, causing it to become slow and steady. Stress management relies on these basic keys to help you relax.

Can you be too prepared for a test? The answer is a resounding no!

Make Your Anxiety Work for You
No matter how well we prepare for a test, the tendency to become anxious is common. The key is to not give in to those feelings. Rather, let them motivate you to ‘keep on keeping on.’ Don’t falter in your study habits, keep preparing, and don’t give up. By all means, avoid running from anxiety by turning to alcohol or drugs, they only throw you off track. By no means should you give into that ever present temptation to procrastinate. Face the thoughts of anxiety head on and let them motivate you to keep your nose to the grindstone, knowing that you are doing your very best in preparing for your test.
