Online Universities
An In-depth Look at Online Education
With the internet becoming one of many leading educational providers, it is no surprise why over 3 million students in the U.S. are currently in the process of obtaining an online degree. Though there are many different ways to receive an education, the majority of students are finding online university programs through already known colleges. These schools not only offer on-campus courses, but also provide for those who are looking for online degree programs. Additionally, there are universities that only operate via the internet.
During recent years, online degree programs have been struggling to prove to people that this form of education is just as beneficial. While some feel that it is sub-par, most students who are in the online program argue that it is more motivational and individualized. After all, on-campus courses may merely be a sea of names and faces, Fortunately, prominent online universities such as The University of Phoenix are changing the face of internet education. Known as the founder of complete degree programs, the University of Phoenix has been making strides ever since they claimed to be the first virtual university in the world. Other influential colleges which offer internet degrees include DeVry University, AIU Online, Pace University, and University of Texas.
It is important to note that many of the online university programs are categorized under “for profit.” This generally means that they do not receive funding from the government. Seeing as most universities online are private, this becomes a major problem. The majority of government funding and private donations go to public universities who are accredited. Since operating costs are far more expensive than tuition fees, it is crucial for these institutions to get financial support.
