GRE

GRE Basics

The Educational Testing Services, (ETS) produces the GRE (Graduate Record Examination). It is a test structured to test a person’s ability to handle graduate level work, and is made up of three sections, verbal, quantitative and analytical reasoning. This is a computer adaptive test, (CAT), and therefore, carries required restrictions: There is one question that appears at a time on the screen; questions on the test are partially generated on how well the test taker answers the questions; these are based on the concepts covered and the types of questions being asked.

If you find that you want to change your questions, you have to rewrite them from scratch, you may not write answers in the margins. A paper based version of the GRE is available if the CAT is not accessible to the test takers.

GRE Subject Tests
GRE Subject Tests are available in each area, and may be part of your testing requirement to take. Subject areas such as English, Chemistry, Psychology, etc. are examples of the sixteen areas covered. It is determined by the school you are applying to as to whether you will be required to take the GRE or not.
